    2007年11月19日,应骆清铭教授的邀请,Prof. Francis T. S. Yu(杨振寰)访问武汉光电国家实验室(筹)和光电子科学与工程学院,并作学术报告。杨教授在近代光学领域致力教学研究近四十年,是世界知名的全息、光学信息处理、光计算等领域的专家。他撰写或主编的专著有13本,大部分都已作为全球各大学的教材,并发表期刊论文300多篇,国际会议重要学术报告300多次,是杰出的华人科学家。Prof. Francis T. S. Yu是OSA,SPIE,IEEE的Fellow。

    2007年11月19日19:00,美国宾夕法尼亚州立大学的杨振寰教授(Prof. Francis T. S. Yu)将在武汉光电国家实验室(筹)A301进行题为“Academic Excellence in Universities: Experience from the United States”的讲座。
    杨教授现为美国宾夕法尼亚州立大学电子工程系教授,光电研究中心主任。杨教授有丰富的研究经历和众多的研究成果,在国际上有很高的学术地位,现为美国光学学会Fellow、IEEE Fellow、美光子学会Fellow等,是公认的美国杰出学者。欢迎全校师生参加。

学术贡献:
杨振寰教授在近代光学领域致力教学研究将近四十年,是世界知名的全像、光信息、光计算领航学者。它所著作的9本光电及光信息领域之教科书,发表的300多篇期刊论文,近200篇会议论文,以及300多次受邀演讲,都是研究光信息处理的重要参考文献,其中最重要的是他开创了下列四个重要领域:
(1). 白光信息处理:
杨教授在1970年代发表的系列论文,以全像技术进行白光及彩色图像之光学处理,乃是开创这项研究之先趋。
(2). 光学与信息论:
1970年代末期及1980年代初期杨教授发表论著: Optics and Information Theory,为光学信息系统建立了严谨的消息理论基础,是电机信息学者跨入光信息领域的必读之作。
(3). 光信息实时处理 (Real-time Optical Information Processing):
1980年代杨教授发表系列光计算、光信息处理、及光学神经网络论文,首创以液晶显示器作为光学空间调制器,进行可程序化 (Programmable)的光学图像实时处理,领导研究风潮,这是光信息处理的一大革命,也是至今光学信息系统输入光振幅及相位的唯一最佳模式。
(4). 全像光纤感测:
1990年代杨教授发表以全像纪录及平行处理技术配合光纤特性进行感测技术研究之系列论文,对光纤感测指引一个极重要的研究方向。
光电教育之贡献:
杨教授是世界知名的光电教育学者,他曾编辑13本光电专书,写过21章光电专章,都是光计算、光信息、全像、光折变非线性光学的重要参考数据。而他撰写的9本光电教科书则是被世界上许多国家的大学及研究机构采用的经典之作:

Vitae
Francis T. S. Yu received his B.S.E.E. degree from Mapua Institute of Technology, Manila, Philippines, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
During the period from 1958 to 1965, he was a teaching fellow, an instructor, and a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Michigan, and a research associate with the Communication Sciences Laboratory at the same University. From 1966 to 1980 he was on the faculty of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Wayne State University. He was a Visiting Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Michigan from 1978-1979. Since 1980, he has been a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at The Pennsylvania State University. He has been a consultant to several industrial and government laboratories. He is an active researcher in the fields of optical signal processing, holography, optics and information theory, and optical computing. He has published over 300 refereed papers in these areas. He is a recipient of the 1983 Faculty Scholar Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Physical Sciences and Engineering, a recipient of the 1984 Outstanding Researcher in the College of Engineering, was named Evan Pugh Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1985 at Penn State, a recipient of the 1993 Premier Research Award from the Penn State Engineering Society, was named Honorary Professor in Nankai University in 1995, and is the co-recipient of the 1998 IEEE Donald G. Fink Prize Paper Award.
He is the author and co-author of nine books entitled: (1) Introduction to Diffraction, Information Processing and Holography (translated in Russian), (2) Optics and Information Theory, (3) Optical Information Processing (translated in Chinese), (4) White-Light Optical Signal Processing, (5) Principles of Optical Engineering (with I. C. Khoo) (translated in Chinese), (6) Optical Signal Processing, Computing, and Neural Networks (with S. Jutamulia) (translated in Chinese, Japanese, and being translated in Russian and Spanish), (7) Introduction to Optical Engineering (with X. Yang) (being translated in Spanish and Korean), (8) Entropy and Information Optics, (9) Introduction to Information Optics (with S. Jutamulia and S. Yin), and he also has contributed several invited chapters in various monographs and books. He has co-edited three books entitled: (1) Optical Storage and Retrieval (with S. Jutamulia), (2) Optical Pattern Recognition (with S. Jutamulia), and (3) Photorefractive Optics (with S. Yin).
Dr. Yu is a fellow of IEEE, OSA, SPIE, and PSC.
