Abstract:We study the scaling laws for the throughputs and delays of two coexisting wireless networks that operate in the same geographic region. The primary network consists of Poisson distributed legacy users of density n, and the secondary network consists of Poisson distributed cognitive users of density m, with m>n. The primary users have a higher priority to access the spectrum without particular considerations for the secondary users, while the secondary users have to act conservatively in order to limit the interference to the primary users. With a practical assumption that the secondary users only know the locations of the primary transmitters (not the primary receivers), we first show that both networks can achieve the same throughput scaling law as what Gupta and Kumar established for a stand-alone wireless network if proper transmission schemes are deployed, where a certain throughput is achievable for each individual secondary user? (i.e., zero outage) with high probability. By using a fluid model, we also show that both networks can achieve the same delay-throughput tradeoff as the optimal one established for a stand-alone wireless network?

崔曙光教授简介
Dr. Shuguang Cui received his B.S. degree in Radio Engineering from Beijing University of Posts and Telecom, Beijing, China, and his M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from McMaster University, Canada, and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Stanford University, USA, in 1997, 2000, and 2005, respectively. From August of 2005 to May of 2007, I worked in the ECE department at the University of Arizona as an Assistant Professor. Since June of 2007, I have been working as an Assistant Professor in the ECE department at the Texas A&M University.
Dr. Cui has authored or co-authored about 100 technical papers in major journals and conferences and some books/chapters in the areas of communications. He also serves as symposium co-chair of major international conferences, including IEEE VTC, IEEE ICC, IEEE Globecom, IEEE WCNC, etc. He served or is serving as an Editorial Board member or/and Guest Editor of some IEEE Magazines and Transactions.
