Abstract:
In this talk I will offer a unique insight into the publishing process of a high-impact energy journal, from the perspective of a recent energy researcher-turned-editor. I will first introduce Joule, the new high-impact energy journal from Cell Press, and our Editorial team. Next, I will motivate and demonstrate Joule’s strong interest in serving the energy research community in China. I will then shed light on the life of a scientific editor, the manuscript life cycle, and the peer review process. Finally, I will give additional detail describing editor considerations when evaluating manuscripts and provide advice to authors from an editor’s point of view.

Biography:
Rose (朱昌荣) is the Associate scientific editor for Joule based out of Elsevier Shanghai office.

She got her B.Sc. from Sichuan University where she conducted a series of battery research training (Mg based metal alloys for Hydrogen storage in 2009, Ni-MH alkali battery joint program with Baosheng renewable energy research center in 2010, and device design for Li-air battery from 2011) under Professor Yungui Chen. She was then selected to join the Merlion collaboration program between NTU (Nanyang Technological University) and Sichuan University from 2012. In NTU, she focused on nanostructured electrode (transition metal oxides, sulfides and nitrides) synthesis for a variety of energy storage systems (lithium-ion battery,1 Sodium-ion battery2 and electric capacitive device3 and graphene quantum dots for aqueous Zn-ion battery) under the advice of Professor Hong Jin Fan. During her PhD., Rose has two exchange studies with Prof. Margit Zacharias in Freiburg University (2014) and Prof. Shirley Ying Meng in University of California, San Diego (2015).

From Aug. 2016 to Feb. 2017, Dr. Zhu was a Research fellow in NTU under Professor Hong Jin Fan working on electrocatalysis.4 She then continues the postdoctoral in NUS (National University of Singapore) with Professor John Wang, focusing on 3D printing (extrusion and selective laser melting/sintering methods based) for energy applications.

In Jan 2018, Dr. Zhu joined the Joule Editorial team.
