American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) announced that Prof. Qingming Luo had been elected as its College of Fellows and inducted during the AIMBE 25th annual meeting in Washington, D.C., on April 4, 2016.
The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) (http://www.aimbe.org)is a famous non-profit academic organization in the field of international medical and biological engineering. It is an organization of leaders with the most innovative and unique features in medical and biological engineering, consisting of academic, industrial, professional society councils and elected fellows. And it has had the important impact on biomedical instruments, medical apparatus and related public health policy formulation.
AIBME not only pushed the initial establishments of National Institutes of Health(NIH) and National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), it is also a founding member of the expert network of Food and Drug Administration(FDA) in USA. AIMBE Fellows represent the top two percent of the most accomplished leaders in the field of medical and biological engineering. Candidates can only be considered for election by the college of fellows if nominated by an existing fellow. Specialty subcommittees are asked to score nominations based on some criteria. All qualified candidates approved by the specialty subcommittees or special review committee are advanced to the election ballot. If a candidate receives 74.5% of a positive vote (Positive Votes/Total Votes, excluding abstentions), that candidate is elected to the College of Fellows.
Prof. Qingming Luo is a senior research scholar in the field of biomedical engineering in China, and he is being recognized for significant contributions in demonstrating the first long-range tracking of individual axons in the mouse brain. Related research results under Prof. Luo's supervision provided an important technique for studying 3D visualization of whole brain network at single neuron resolution level, and have been published on the journal of Science, selected as one of the top 10 Chinese Scientific Achievements for 2011, and won the 2nd Prize of 2014 State Technology Invention Award(the first contributor).
